In Malaysia, the stamp collecting hobby and industry is managed through the PSM or Philatelic Society of Malaysia. It was first established in 1947 when it was known as the Selangor Stamp Club (SSC) by the late Dr. A.R.Kandiah. 3 years later, it would organize its first exhibition and through this society, philately became more prominent.

Throughout the years, there were countless programmes and events organized by the society where in 1992, it held the 5th FIAP Asian International held in Kuala Lumpur and many more that followed. It was the co-founder of the Inter-Asian Philatelic Federation(FIAP) where in 1970, officially changed its name to PSM.

PSM is an instrumental body that promotes and develops this discipline where it promotes philately in the country and to preserve and safeguard the practice in the country. The society operates in Jalan Sentul where its club house is located that comes with a meeting room and an in-house library which is opened to members on Tuesdays from 5.30pm onwards.

Apart from organising philately events and such, PSM is also the Malaysian voice and representative of this practice in the international arena. It is one of the founding members of the FIAP (Inter-Asian Philatelic Federation) while it also holds membership at the FIP (Federation Internationale de Philately).

Among the exhibitions that have been organised by the PSM over the years include Stamp Fairs where collectors are able to share their collections with others around the country as well as rare and limited editions are on display. Apart from that, the PSM also hold auctions on a monthly basis where there are many rare stamps and items will be sold off to the highest bidder.

If you are a strong and passionate stamp collector, it would be essential that you join the PSM so that you can be involved in the many events and programmes organized by the society. This is where you will be able to fellowship and mingle with other stamp collectors and philatelists around the country on their weekly meetings as well as buy or sell any philatelic materials.
There will also be periodic information and resources that are channelled to you through their Berita PSM where you will also be able to be in the know about what is happening around the Malaysian philately industry.

On top of that, you will also be part of the national and international philately community where you can exchange ideas, opinions and even items among other stamp collectors around the region. Here is where you will be able to find resources and information about all you need to know about stamp collecting and philately.

Apart from that, there are also National Stamp Exhibitions which you will be part of and organized by the PSM in which you can gain more exposure for your collections while seeing how others are carrying out their hobbies. Membership with the PSM will accord you with one of the most unique opportunities where you will be part of one of the most active moments in philately and stamp collection.
